ACID PEPES -

A Retro Dive into Meme Culture

On September 8th, 2023, I unveiled a collection culminating in a deep appreciation for the meme culture.

I've always been drawn to challenges. With ACID PEPES, I set my own boundaries - a retro aesthetic with minimal, unique designs, one-of-one geometric patterns, and simple/friendly lines. Most pieces have a constraint of 2 colors except for a few rare pieces. I took no shortcuts, just my mind, tools, and countless hours of dedication.

The collection represents my curiosity, respect, and love for memes and how they've become a big part of our culture. Memes allow us to show what we feel, how we live, and our shared connections in this digital age.

They capture moments, emotions, and cultural shifts, becoming a universal language that bridges generations. We find humor, reflection, and a sense of belonging through memes in an ever-evolving world.

Web3 Reference

I added a mix of familiar faces from web3 to the collection. We're talking about @chrisgranneberg, @thedrsuss, @VSTRVL_FFF, @hafftka, @ScrillaVentura, @mighty_shroom, @punk6529, @beeple They all bring much memetic magic to the space.

It's a nod to these individuals, acknowledging their extraordinary contributions to our digital culture.

Emojis

In ACID PEPES, we've got Pepes wearing emojis like πŸ₯³, πŸ˜‚, πŸ˜…, and more. Each one shows a different vibe. It's about capturing how we really talk and feel online.

These emojis aren't just for show. They're about the emotions we share daily in our digital world. From the laugh-out-loud πŸ˜‚ to the mind-blown 🀯, each Pepe with an emoji is like a snapshot of our online life.

So, in this collection, emojis and Pepes come together to show off our digital expressions in a fun, simple way. It's all about the feels, the laughs, and everything in between.

Rare Pepes

Pepe has become more than just a meme. It's a canvas for our collective imagination. It's about seeing a bit of ourselves in each piece of art. This idea isn't new – we've always looked for reflections of our stories and emotions in art. In the world of Pepe, Rare Pepes are perfect examples of this.

ACID PEPES includes some standout Rare Pepes that capture this spirit. For instance, RAREPEPE (Nakamoto card) is a golden piece of digital history. We have DJPEPE by Rare Scrilla (founder of Fake Rares). HAIRPEPE, LORDKEK and PEPEPEARL.

Each of these Rare Pepes has its own story and flavor. I celebrate the diverse ways Pepe has become a mirror to our digital selves.

IHAM Gallery Paris

ACID PEPES was showcased at the Impepata exhibition in IHAM Gallery, Paris, from October 7th to 9th, 2023. Thanks to @vandaloruins, who curated the event, and @bygrida, who opened the space. The second image highlights ACID PEPES guerilla projections by Vandalo Ruins in Paris.

Shoutout to my fellow artist @pep0tto for recording the video.

The Culture

I intended to bring together a wild mix of characters. From meme legends like Scumbag Steve and Good Guy Greg to timeless icons like Shakespeare, DalΓ, and Einstein. I've also thrown in superheroes like Batman, Superman, and Iron Man. It's a diverse mash-up that crosses timelines and genres.

Whether it's a meme that made us laugh, a historical genius who changed the world, or a superhero who inspires us, they all find a place in our art and culture. It's a celebration of characters who've left their mark from the past to the present, proving that great stories and heroes, regardless of origin, have a timeless appeal.
